Can I Use HSA or FSA Funds for Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a big investment, but you probably have more ways to pay than you first thought. Here’s how HSA, FSA and 401(k) funds can help, along with our financing options. For overall pricing, start with our cost of dental implants guide.

Absolutely. We help patients use HSA and FSA cards to pay for their dental implant procedures, and our team will work with you to coordinate payment.

What’s the Difference Between an HSA and an FSA?

  • FSA: Benefits expire at the end of the plan year, so it’s important to use them before they expire. Some plans offer a short grace period or let you carry over a limited amount.
  • HSA: Funds roll over from year to year. If you haven’t used them yet, your existing HSA could pay for a significant part of your procedure. And the good news is, your HSA stays with you, even if you change jobs.

Can I Use My 401(k) to Pay for Dental Implants?

In our experience, some patients use their 401(k), either through a loan or an early withdrawal. In specific cases, we’ve provided patients with a letter of medical necessity to help them process the request.

Is There a Penalty for an Early 401(k) Withdrawal?

Keep in mind that if you’re under 59½, an early withdrawal is usually subject to income tax plus a 10% penalty, while a 401(k) loan usually avoids both, as long as it’s repaid on schedule. In some cases, patients can avoid the 10% penalty if they meet certain criteria.

Our team will share information and connect you with resources to help you plan for your new smile. Of course, talk with your tax advisor before making any decisions.

What Other Ways Can I Pay?

  • Dental partner loans, with options for low or no credit and no hit to your credit when you check your financing options
  • Monthly payments starting as low as $149
  • 0% interest promotions for qualified patients
  • Dental insurance, which we’ll verify and help you maximize. See what dental insurance covers
